Scottish Films

Just found out that there is a movie production of Lewis Grassic Gibbon's Sunset Song in the works! Due for release in 2015. I hope it is released in the US too. It promises to be visually stunning. Made by British film-maker Terence Davies. The film stars Agyness Deyn, Peter Mullan, and Kevin Guthrie.
Read about it here. Check out Terence Davies website here.

Four other Scottish based films were mentioned in this article. All sound good and I am going to try to find all of them to watch. Netflix does have a couple of them.

Under the Skin

Sunshine on the Leith

Dexter Fletcher directs Sunshine on Leith; a jubilant, heartfelt musical about the power of home, the hearth, family and love. It is the tale of one tight-knit family, and the three couples bound to it, as they experience the joys and heartache that punctuate all relationships. And they do it all while singing to the euphoric music of The Proclaimers.

Have any of you seen any of these and what did you think?

Peggy Ann

  1. I've never seen any of these. UNDER THE SKIN sounds interesting.

  2. did you see Dear Frankie? I loved that one!

  3. UNDER THE SKIN is the only one that I am familiar with... but have not seen it. It is based on a book from 2000. I am interested in both, maybe.

    1. I'll have to look the book up, Tracy. Science Fiction isn't really my genre though. But it's good to stretch my boundaries now and then!

  4. We saw The Angels' Share and really enjoyed it, it's a good film and storyline but the scenery is great too.

    1. And it's the only one that is on Youtube full length for free!

  5. I am a big Proclaimers fan, and will look for Sunshine on Leith. Thanks! The Angels' Share is on Netflix instant, too.
