'I am simply a 'book drunkard.' Books have the same irresistible temptation for me that liquor has for its devotee. I cannot withstand them.' L.M. Montgomery

Books!

The library in Naples Maine has an ongoing book sale in their basement. Shelves and shelves of them! Found some good ones! Also made a trip to the local Goodwill store that has a nice selection, but only got two there.
How could I pass up this cover?!

Also got a paperback copy of The Country of Pointed Firs by Sarah Orne Jewett there. I have the ebook version but this one is a lovely paperback copy. The rest of the books came from the Naples Library.

I was pleasantly surprised when I found a copy of Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh a Scottish writer. I've been looking for one thru my library system and not having any luck. Not my typical style of book but one I've been challenged to give a try. My oldest son doesn't think I'll make it all the way through the book! Also got the second book, Porno, featuring the same characters after they grow up.

The Van Reid book, Peter Loon, was a nice find too! I love his Moose League books set in Maine.

I've seen several good reviews of Ann Holt's Scandinavian thrillers so was pleased to find one of her's to try too.

Grandkids are going home tomorrow so I will get back to my old routine. Haven't had much time to read this last month. Only got 6 chapters read in the last 2 weeks! But we have had a wonderful month together! I'll get a post up about the trip to Maine soon.

  1. Nice haul, Peggy Ann. That cover for the Maine cop book is hysterical! I thought you lived in Pennsylvania. Are you visiting or on vacation in Maine?

Heck, you survived watching THE LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM and actually liked it! Irvine Welsh will pale in comparison. :^D

    1. Vacationing, John. I do live in PA. near Pittsburgh. Maine is on of my favorite places. The language is what my son doesn't think I will like, but I think I'm a big girl now:)

  2. Oh gosh, that cover! LOL!

Wonderful books, I see you found a Dorothy L. Sayers. I love her books.

Glad you've enjoyed your month with your grandkids. They grow up quickly so us grandparents have to make the most of the time we can see them.

  3. I can't wait to see / read your post about your trip to Maine. As you know, we decided not to go this summer. Maybe later this fall.
I was wondering if you'd find any Van Reid books. Glad you did! I have Peter Loon, but I haven't read it yet.

  6. D will need to build an extension for all your books. I haven't read anything by Irvine Welsh, I'm going to wait and see how you get on with him!
