Yellow Jackets!

We have a yellow jackets nest in the rafters of the ceiling in my bathroom! We had one in the living room ceiling a couple of years ago. It makes your skin crawl! You can hear all the buzzing and moving around, it is so creepy! Now do we wait until it gets cold (like Oct.- Nov.) and try to get rid of it ourselves or do we hire someone again to come do it? They are very aggressive this time of year.

This is not my nest but this is what it might look like...

Check out this nest in Florida, 1 million yellow jackets!!!!

Reading this from 1921. A ghost story! How fitting with my bees buzzing:)

  1. Oh my, I don't think I've ever seen anything like that in my life, in fact I know I haven't. We've had an ordinary wasps nest in the garden, that wasn't fun as it was too close to the house, but that thing is astonishing. In the UK the council will send someone to get rid of a wasp's nest in the house, loft or something, but if it's bees you're on your own. Hope you manage to get rid of it.

    1. Yellow Jackets are wasps, Cath and you are so lucky you have council that gets rid of them! We don't have anything like that in the states. It cost us $174 3 years ago when we had them. They gave us an estimate this time of $119 - $200 they are coming tomorrow morning.

    2. Strangely enough after wondering what Yellow Jackets were (bees or wasps) and having to Google them, this very evening I was reading my latest book, The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier (set in 1850s Ohio), and there was a small scene about....... yellow jackets. How odd is that? Life is very strange sometimes. Glad to hear you have someone coming to get rid of them, Peggy.
