Sit A While on the Porch

We finally had a beautiful spring day! 74* and sunshine. I got the back porch cleaned off and we sat outside and enjoyed it! We even ate dinner out there.

Nothing fancy, but it's our favorite spot in the sumer. My hubby made the blue adirondack chairs years ago and the picnic table and benches too. I think I'll keep him ;>)

Last year I finally threw out the 20 year old porch swing so we have to get a new one this year or maybe a glider this time. Maybe I'll keep my eyes open for an old wicker settee and cut the legs off and make a swing out of it! I love old things. My honey says that's good since he's getting pretty grey!

How about your favorite summer time spot? Porch, deck, veranda? Put a link to yours in a comment if you can! I'll stop over and sit a while!

  1. Nice! We got to open windows for the first time yesterday. A real treat --for the cats too.

  2. I think I'd like to sit on your porch and read! My favorite outdoor reading spot was the front porch at my parents' house. It was L-shaped and there was a thick Virginia creeper vine along the side and the front edge. I could sit in the Adirondack rocking chair and be mostly hidden while being able to see people walking or driving past. Across the street were tall, tall pines that made the most wonderful noise in the wind and looked gorgeous with a full moon coming up behind them. Alas, my parents and the porch are gone and I've never found a place as perfect as that.

    1. Joan, it sounds like right out of a novel! You were so lucky to have it!

  3. Your porch looks so comfy and inviting. We are still in teh process of completing my favorite summer spot - a small patio for the fire pit. I'll link up as soon as I have pictures.

Enjoy your summer on the porch!

  4. I love that picture of you!!! It looks like there are plantings or something that give you privacy. Is the back porch off the kitchen or do you have to walk a ways with your food?

    1. At the one end facing the road there are rhododendron. Along the back I once planted more rhododendron but Wendy was a puppy and she kept pulling them up and parading them around the yard so I gave up. Dave plants vegetables there now in the summer. Inn the first pic you can see the door just to the left of the table and that goes right into the kitchen. That is mom, I should have noted that and have now fixed that blooper! She'll be pleased people mistook her for me!

    2. It just shows that as readers, we often don't have any idea of what bloggers look like. I remember one picture, the first time I read your blog (I think) where you were sitting against a tree reading O. Douglas. But as I think of it, there's another pic of you floating around - just your face. Where did I see it?? So mistaking your mother for you was my mistake not yours. :<)
And how great to have an outdoor eating area just off the kitchen. My porch is two rooms away which is why I'd like a little patio out the kitchen door. We'll see.

  5. What a lovely spot. And a lovely picture of you enjoying your favourite summer time spot. We have a conservatory that we use though it doesn't have enough shade in the summer so it tends to get used most in the spring and autumn. The view is nice though and we love it.

    1. Thanks, Cath, but that's my mom sitting there I guess I should have stated that in the post!

  6. What an ideal space. We have decking overlooking the back garden but it's far too cold just now to sit out there! My husband wants to put a roof over it so we can use it more, but I'm bothered it would take some light off the kitchen - I'm still thinking about it.

    1. Margaret, it does cut the light in my kitchen. But sitting out without being bothered by the bugs is nice. It is a trade off for sure.

  7. It looks perfect Peggy, and 74 F sounds perfect. I want something just like that for sitting in, a sort of garden room. I looked out to my garden table and chairs and thought about taking a book out there - but a walk around the garden had me shivering, maybe next month!

    1. A nice all weather room would be nice. With windows for when it's colder and opened when its nice. Dave wanted to do ours that way but I wanted the full screen so the dogs could lay there and look out. Next house!
